Having recently had cause to brush up on my paper and pulp Global and EU markets I thought I would share some interesting points with you…
Paper pulp is the raw material for paper manufacture that contains vegetable, mineral, or man-made fibres. The wood fibre sources required for pulping are generally, 45% sawmill residue, 21% logs and chips, and 34% recycled paper. It is used to produce paper, tissue, board and speciality paper. It is renewable and biodegradable.
There is a wealth of further scientific development proposed which can take the bi-products and potentially convert them into basic carbohydrates and also biodiesel. Pulp is one of the most abundant raw materials worldwide and is a truly sustainable product.
Of course, sustainability is not just about avoiding the depletion of natural resources; for business it is about the sustainability of economic growth and the ability to maintain output. With growing employment, financial and regulatory pressures impacting on our abilities to continue to perform, it is perhaps more imperative nowadays to ensure our systems, processes, supply chains and waste streams are all fighting fit to deal with these challenges.
